What fireproof coating (dc 315) actually does
Building code requires that spray polyurethane foam be separated from occupied space by a thermal barrier, and that foam in attics and crawl spaces be covered by an approved ignition barrier. DC 315 is the intumescent coating we use to satisfy that requirement without framing and finishing drywall over every surface. Applied as a spray coating directly over cured foam, it expands into a protective char layer when exposed to fire, slowing flame spread and buying critical time. It carries the testing and code approvals inspectors look for, and it lets us finish irregular attic slopes, crawl spaces and mechanical rooms cleanly where drywall would be impractical.
